“Thanks for refreshing my memory about your brilliant music” - Guy Garvey, BBC 6 Music
“Written and performed with feeling, this is already my favourite album of the year. Whelligan are back with their best songs yet! 10/10” - Wirral Wave Radio
An album full of memories and characters associated with being an unemployed musician growing up in Birkenhead. Jobcentre chat, glorious wasted hours by the waterside. The could’ve-beens, the might’ve-beens, the has-beens, the never-weres. The dreams, the reality, the hopelessness, the humour and the tenderness which was shared by so many in a town that was slowly but surely
being forgotten.
The title (lifted from a line by pessimistic philosopher John Gray,) reflects a patronizing tone adopted by so many political commentators who , while rushing to defend, condone and indeed balm the voices of hatred and racism, sneer at the dreamers, and those seeking to create fairer and kinder societies.
RIYL: Grandaddy, Paul Heaton, Julian Cope, The Fernweh, The Smiths, Love.
