The Wake formed in Glasgow in April 1981, after singer/guitarist Caesar left future chart stars Altered Images. After a self-released debut single The Wake settled on a stable line-up comprising: Caesar, Bobby Gillespie (bass), Steven Allen (drums) and Carolyn Allen (keyboards).

After supporting New Order in 1982 the group joined cult label Factory Records and recorded the mini album Harmony. 1983 saw another single (Something Outside) and an excellent Peel session. In July Gillespie, who had divided his time between The Wake and an embryonic Primal Scream, left for the Jesus and Mary Chain, to be replaced on bass by Alistair ‘Mac’ Macpherson.

After three more singles for Factory and the well-regarded album Here Comes Everybody in 1985, the band transferred to Sarah Records for another brace of albums and singles.

In 2001/2 LTM re-issued the entire Wake back catalogue over four remastered CDs. The enduring appeal of their Factory-era catalogue in particular supports the release of this in-concert DVD, Live at the Hacienda, which features two complete sets at the legendary Manchester venue from July 1983 (supporting Howard Devoto) and a headline slot from January 1984. As an extra bonus, the promotional clip for their breezy single Talk About The Past is also included. Live at the Hacienda has a running time of 70 minutes and features a detailed band biography. The disc is Region 0 (multi-region), NTSC format.
