Haruka Nakamura - Ongaku No Aru Fuukei

Kitchen.
(KI014: )

First introduced in 2010, haruka nakamura’s second album, 'twilight,' became a quiet touchstone for listeners. Now, he unveils 'Ongaku no Aru Fuukei'(Music with Scenery), a 2CD album spanning 106 minutes, expanding on the themes and sounds of 'twilight' while deepening his signature introspection and enduring vision.

Recorded at concert hall sonorium in Tokyo, the album features the ensemble line-up of ARAKI Shin (Saxophone, Flute), Akira Uchida (Saxophone), Rie Nemoto (Violin) and Isao Saito (Drums). The roots of the ensemble trace back to the recording of 'twilight' when haruka nakamura first invited each member to collaborate on the album. Since its release and after almost four years of extensive touring, the group has since built a repertoire and developed a musical language of their own, mixing classical rigor with contemporary improvisation both formal and free. With haruka nakamura leading on piano, they produce glowing sonorities and emotional resonances that are rich in detail and austerely beautiful.

The link to chamber music from hymns and spirituals is fundamental in the music orientation of haruka nakamura. To capture that, 'Ongaku no Aru Fuukei' was recorded in the responsive acoustics of the Jun Aoki designed concert hall sonorium in Tokyo. The decision to record this album in a chapel-like hall rather than a traditional studio feels entirely fitting: the recital-like, liturgical atmosphere of this collection resonates with the profound, stark beauty of the space itself. Each performance is evocative, intimate, and beautifully rendered in somber hues, capturing haruka nakamura and his ensemble in perfect harmony.

'Ongaku no Aru Fuukei' blends concise tracks and expansive compositions, offering a dynamic range as the ensemble balances structured passages with spontaneous improvisation. The album includes new pieces like 'SIN,' 'Shigatsu no Soutei,' and 'Eien,' alongside reworked ensemble versions of selections from 'twilight'. Standout moments include the sweeping, 19-minute title piece 'Ongaku no Aru Fuukei' and the hymn-like 'Hikari,' which features the ethereal voices of the nine-member female choir, CANTUS. 'Ongaku no Aru Fuukei' is haruka nakamura’s most definitive live recording to date and a must-have for all his fans.
