The first of four volumes in our acclaimed archive series Oh! It's A Lovely War, this CD album and digital download runs for 74 minutes and features some of the best known period songs from the First World War. The recordings are mainly British and include patriotic songs, marches, descriptive sketches and actuality material. Recording dates are given below. All selections have been sympathetically remastered using CEDAR technology, while the booklet features detailed historical and recording notes by historian James Hayward. Now running to four volumes, the Oh! It's a Lovely War series is a must for all military and social historians as well as collectors of vintage song, music hall and comedy recordings.
