Elf Power are back with their 15th album Mirth, on which they deliver some of their most melodic and direct songs ever, delivering plenty of their trademark fuzzed out multi tracked Rat pedal guitar solos, stacked vocal harmonies, and atmospheric keyboards. The members of the legendary Elephant 6 collective return with a home recorded album that expands their already eclectic sound to new heights, and includes some of their catchiest earworms to date and some of their most interesting arrangements ever featuring slide guitar, Moog keyboards, drum machines, mellotron, and strings. Long time members singer/songwriter Andrew Rieger, multi-instrumentalist Laura Carter, guitarist Davey Wrathgabar, and drummer Peter Alvanos are rejoined on Mirth by original bassist Bryan Poole for the first time on a full album in 20 years. Poole also co-writes the first single “Feathers on the Cloud” with Rieger, the first time the two have co-written a song since 1999’s A Dream in Sound album.

Lyrical topics on Mirth are wide reaching, touching on class divide (“Peasants and Aristocracy”), existential crises (“Trying on God’s Uniform”), outer space (“Ridge on the Moon of Saturn”) and many other subjects. Popular culture references range from classic film references like Sidney Lumet’s 1970’s bank heist flick “Dog Day Afternoon” (“Surviving the Invasion”), and Robert DeNiro’s character Rupert Pupkin in Martin Scorsese’s “King of Comedy” (“Mirage Map”), to a shout out  to hardcore punk legends Bad Brains (“The Most Mysterious Thing”).

Elf Power formed in 1994 in Athens, Georgia and have spent the last 33 years touring all over North America, Europe and Japan many times, including festivals like the UK’s All Tomorrow’s Parties, Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival, Norway’s Egersund Festival, Czech Republic’s Creepy TeePee, NYC’s Bazooka Fest, as well as shows at famous venues like Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and NYC’s Carnegie Hall. Their 15 albums include collaborations with acclaimed producer Dave Fridmann (1999's A Dream in Sound) and indie-folk singer Vic Chesnutt (2008’s Dark Developments).

Band members also maintain and operate the Orange Twin Conservation Community, 155 acres of beautiful land on the outskirts of Athens that has initiated the development of a self sustainable and ecologically minded cluster village and nature preserve, featuring a natural amphitheater that has hosted many concerts. The band also runs the record label Orange Twin Records there, which they started in 2001, and have released albums by Neutral Milk Hotel, Vic Chesnutt, Elf Power, Nana Grizol, Jack Logan, and The Gerbils, as well as reissues of albums from the 1960’s and 1970’s by artists like Sibylle Baier and Elyse Weinberg.
