I Am Robot and Proud's long-awaited 8th album, the first in six and a half years since Lucky Static, is finally complete. IARAP is a project by Toronto artist Shaw-Han Liem, who has been attracting not only electronica and Western music listeners but also listeners and creators across many genres since the early 2000s.
IARAP's reputation as a visual and sound artist has grown via his singular composing style, which has attracted more than the usual number of synchronization licenses of his unique sound resulting in dozens of commercial visuals. His music is often heard in media, such as news and information programs, games, retail stores, and even a university admissions advertisement.
The album is a new door opened, skillfully blending electronic and acoustic sounds with sophisticated composition as only Shaw-Han can. Instantly recognizable as IARAP, the 10 tracks are exquisitely designed to make the most of the space by eliminating all unnecessary elements and creating a detailed, yet infinitely pleasing tone, melody, and rhythm. The sound massage power chill-out vibes are most effective.
Mastering is by Sandro Perri, who has been a familiar face on IARAP's albums since LIam's 2008 4th album Uphill City.
In March 2025, IARAP toured Japan for the first time in six years, immediately following the release of this album on CD/digital on the 7e.p. label (Japan). All live performances were as a trio with live drums, synth bass, and Shaw-Han's programming.
Press:
"I will always be surprised and a bit disappointed that I Am Robot And Proud isn't as big as an Anamanaguchi, or Tycho. The way Liem blends Indietronica, IDM, and synth-pop is nothing short of amazing, he has his own sound and each album scratches the fecundity of childhood nostalgia; like trying to remember a time that plays like a cinematic film behind your eyes. The track Texture Memory to me is vintage IARAP. The playful soft guitars and airy sub bass along with plucked synths and an inventive drum beat is enough to tell you that this is what Liam's music is all about. Lines in a Grid paints like an RPG video game starting you out in your hometown as if the Super Nintendo classic Earthbound was remastered. Erin Mills Malls is enough to transport your fantasies into almost daring you to build your own fantasy that the music can play as a soundtrack to. I Am Robot and Proud needs to be more well known and the best part is is that he's got a sizable discography to be discovered." - Album of the Year
