Kenric McDowell is thoughtful and wonderfully creative in combining sounds, samples and moods to make just the right impression. Once he gets an idea in motion, whether to drop in a self-conscious Sugargliders (Sarah) or My Bloody Valentine sample (creating a theme song for the group of artists from Little Darla Vol. 8 that one Indie Pop List member coined "the MBV school of drum & bass") or to make a track for Djs to mix on the floor there's no stopping til it's perfected, even if it means an all-nighter. And one can frequently find Junior Varsity km playing out in the San Francisco Bay Area with his peer group of young electronic music kids; kids in it not for drugs and glamour, but rather for the pure thrill of building on and pushing the limits of their own musical styles.
