Pia Fraus - Ten Remixes Of Yenissey CD (Seksound (Estonia): SEKs018: 4739852938358) $14.29
|
COMING 7/28/2008
Pia Fraus had many international projects going on while releasing After Summer, their last album which is produced by Glaswegian Norman Blake
(Teenage Fanclub). Now they are ready with remix compilation Ten Remixes of
Yenissey, released by Seksound. Yenissey was first result from cooperation between Pia Fraus and Norman Blake. Band is very proud of this remix album, as remixers are all their favorites from all around the world. International list is very impressive, many well-known indie rock artists, especially from Scotland, dreamland of indiepop. Old friend Bill Wells goes onto jazzy trip over Yenissey. International Airport loves little things and Future Pilot AKA goes massive with global music influences. Teenage Fanclub ends compilation with little dreamy introspection on themes of Yenissey. Seeland (Duophonic artist) wanders around noisy and krauty soundwaves. Legendary His Name Is Alive loves noisy part of Pia Fraus. Also best names of local scene are presented and Pia Fraus also offers newer version of track. Galaktlan with lovely electro and 3pead fusing estonian indie and dance history are for little indie dance floors. Mirabilia makes it contemporary psychpop. Hopefully you are not tired of Yenissey by now!

DJ Donna Summer - Panther Tracks vol. 2 12" (Cock Rock Disco (UK): vrock16) $13.69
|
|
COMING 8/4/2008
EXCLUSIVE. About this release: He’s back! It’s been 2 years since Jason Forrest released his last full-length album, and 5 years since he’s released
as Donna Summer. So now he’s back, this time with the slightly different moniker (DJ Donna Summer) and his first release for his own Cock Rock Disco label. Just as “Shamelessly Exciting” was a record that mixed different genres into a new mash of sampled sounds, “Panther Tracks” is a record comprised of different styles of dance music made solely with the intention to get people moving!
From Booty to Breakcore, Happy Hardcore to Hardstyle, Techno to B’more Club Music, Forrest has it in there! Initially begun as a sort of remix record, “Panther Tracks” builds heavily on a variety of sampled heroes. One can hear Dj Chip and Dj Technics form the skeleton of more booty oriented tracks like “Peepers” and “Boomshakalaka”. While some live recordings (on cassette) of old-school Uk Breakbeat Rave festivals by DJ Slipmat, Ratpack, and Ellis D are
reconstructed to make new Breakcore styled dance tracks. Traces of Hardstyle, Techno and a whole lot of Breakcore yield such gems as “Party People”, “Get Down” and “Rock Rock Rock”. No style too hard or too cheesy to learn from, “Panther Tracks” is like the ultimate Rave; it’s fun, slightly crazy, and will keep you dancing all night long.

|
COMING 8/4/2008
EXCLUSIVE. LTM is proud to announce the release of the very first soundtrack recording by The Durutti Column, the legendary Factory Records ensemble formed and fronted by virtuoso guitarist/composer Vini Reilly.
Treatise on the Steppenwolf is the soundtrack to the performance piece of the same name by experimental theatre group 12 Stars, written and directed by Gerard McInulty, first staged in Glasgow in May 2003. Freely adapted from the celebrated counter-culture novel by Hermann Hesse, the performance is a portrait a divided character in a state of ongoing conflict.
Previously unreleased, the soundtrack CD combines the original studio recordings of the 12 pieces performed by The Durutti Column during the Glasgow run, as well as two bonus live tracks recorded at the event, one featuring spoken-word narrative by cast member Carolyn Allen.
The attractive booklet for this 60 minute digital re-master includes background notes, and images from the Glasgow performance in May 2003.
Artist biography: Manchester native Vini Reilly formed The Durutti Column in 1978, recording his debut album The Return of the Durutti Column the following year with producer Martin Hannett, a set of delicate instrumental tracks housed in an abrasive sandpaper sleeve. Subsequent landmark albums include LC (1981), Without Mercy (1984), The Guitar & Other Machines (1987), Sex & Death (1993), Fidelity (1996) and Someone Else’s Party (2003). A prolific recording artist in his own right (usually with drummer Bruce Mitchell), Reilly has also guested on records by Morrissey, Olive and Holly Johnson. |
|
COMING 8/4/2008
Nisennenmondai means “Year 2000 Problem'' and is an instrumental Japanese girl trio from Tokyo. Visits to Tokyo by Lightning Bolt, Battles & No Age and others have unearthed these three girls with the mammoth sound. With song titles such as This Heat, Sonic Youth & Pop Group, one understand which musical territory the band comes from, and if you ad Black Flag, DNA, Neu! & Pere Ubu you are pretty close to Nisennenmondais sound. It’s raw & repetitive (post) punk instrumentals, at the same time as they are wild groovy with a no wave/disco vibe to it. This is the first release outside of Japan & it contains the bands two EPs “Neji” and Tori” released as one album with new cover design by Kim Hiorthoy.

STEVE RODEN - Airforms CD (Line: LINE_022: NO UPC) $12.00
|
COMING 8/4/2008
Limited to 600. Sold out quickly in 2005. 12k just found 100 in storage. LINE is proud to present the latest full length recording from visual and sound artist Steve Roden. Airforms was first presented at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [ Scottsdale, Arizona ] in April of 2004. The work was inspired by a group of experimental houses designed by Wallace Neff in the 1940’s using a process he called airform construction. The houses were built by spraying concrete over an inflated balloon structure. Inspired by the nautilus sea shell, the houses were an investigation into the aesthetic possibilities of structures formed by air, and the psychological effects of living inside a kind of organic space.
The installation attempted to reflect Neff’s ideas in the use of air as an inspirational skeleton and physical presence in the construction of the forms as well as the audio. Five objects were built by laying plaster over small balloons. The sound work was created using the transformed sound of a breath blown through an old wooden organ pipe. Both essentially built from Roden’s own breath. The original multi-channel audio work consisted of five small speakers, each placed within a single plaster form. The version for this cd has been re-organized for stereo listening. The lack of narrative structure attempts to create an audio space in line with Neff’s architectural interests in the airform projects.
Steve Roden is a visual and sound artist from Los Angeles. His work includes painting, drawing, sculpture, film/video, and sound installation. Roden’s involve a combination of conceptual strategies and intuitive movements. Found structures are lifted from their original intentions and combined with invented systems to be used as the basis for improvisation and abstraction. In the visual works, printed language, graphic design, maps, and other forms of specific visual notation are sent through various self invented systems of translation to create open readings and new meanings. In the sound works, singular source materials such as objects, architectural spaces, and field recordings, are abstracted through electronics to create new audio spaces, or ‘possible landscapes.’ The sound works present themselves with an aesthetic roden describes as “lower case’’ - sound concerned with subtlety and the quiet activity of listening.
The LA Weekly recently called Roden “the most idiosyncratic abstract painter to emerge from LA in the 90’s”; while The Wire magazine recently referred to Roden’s cd the radio as “a particularly modest form of genius”.
Roden has been exhibiting his visual and sound works since 1986 in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, including museums, galleries and arts spaces in USA, EU and Japan.
Recent shows include the Stadt Galerie Museum (Saarbrucken, Germany), San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami Museum of Contemporary Art, UCLA Armand Hammer Museum & the Mak Center for Art and Architecture los angeles, the drawing center, nyc; susanne vielmetter la projects (LA), Jennjoy Gallery (SF), Kunsthallen Brandts Klaedefabrik (Odense, Denmark), Podewil (Berlin, Germany) and many others.
Roden has performed live improvised soundscapes in arts spaces, galleries, museums, theatres, and alternative spaces worldwide including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the ICA & the Hayward Gallery (London, UK) MIT (Boston), The Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), and The Musee de Beaux Artes (Nantes, France) as well as performance tours of Brazil and Japan and music/art festivals around the globe.
Roden has released cd’s of his sound works under his own name, as well as under the name ‘in be tween noise’on labels include Trente Oiseaux (Germany), Sonoris (France), GMBH (France), Digital Narcis and Meme (Japan), and LINE (US). Roden’s work has appeared on a number of international compilations, including the Tulpas project on Selektion (Germany).

QUA - Silver Red CD (Someone Good (Australia): RMSG005: 843041045247) $11.99
|
COMING 8/11/2008
EXCLUSIVE. "Silver Red" has been an evolving piece of music from Qua aka Cornel Wilzcek. Over the course of two years Silver Red began to take shape, with the piano and guitar source material originally recorded in 2005 at a live performance in Melbourne. This source
material was loaded into an ever-growing custom software patch controlled by a French invention, the
Lemur - a multi-touch, programmable screen – that eventually became the backbone of the composition. While it evokes ideas from Steve Reich, Philip Glass and other rhythmic minimalist composers, it also owes much to colorful explorations of artists such
as Moondog and Roberto Cacciapaglia.
In 2007, Laurence Pike, of Sydney bands Pivot (Warp Records) and Triosk (Leaf Records), took to the drums
performing with Qua live and in the studio. As well as playing on Qua's upcoming pop album, Laurence
played a one-take drum part that was then loaded into the custom Qua software patch and re-performed by
Cornel, thus lending it the same treatment as the other source material. "One Second" is a reaction to "Silver Red". It felt necessary to somehow resolve the album and boil it
down to a few simple sounds. It looks at Silver Red from the view point of artists such as Ennio Morricone,
Kristoff Komeda and Scott Walker and somehow extrudes one second of time from Silver Red.

Tenniscoats & Secai - Tenniscoats & Secai CD (Noble (Japan): CXCA-1232: 4522081000725) $14.99
|
COMING 8/11/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Almost 6 years since the mini-album The Ending Theme, Tenniscoats are
introducing their work once again through noble label. Tenniscoats is the Tokyo duo of Saya and Ueno Takashi and friends. The open stance of this duo as seen through their emajikickf label and their rainbow of collaborations with artists has won the hearts of passionate fans the world wide. Last year saw sequential release of Tenniscoats music, Totemo Aimasho from Australia's Room40 and
Tan-Tan Therapy from Sweden's Hapna. Now, they have welcomed Secai, a duo formed by friends of majikick, Daisuke Namiki a.k.a. NSD and Takeshi Hiruma a.k.a. DASMAN. Together with their partners of creation, the artists have completed Tenniscoats & Secai a collaboration album finished after nearly 2 years of patient brewing. Most of the pieces for this album were created through sessions with the recording, composition, and songwriting added along the way. In
addition to the abstract track making which is a signature of Secai work, NSD works together with Saya to create almost half of the lyrics, and DASMAN sings in the chorus and plays bass for an album which unleashes the creative energy of both artists. Combined with Sayafs mixing and song writing and Ueno Takashifs poetic playing and
inspirations, this album is an original piece of work that highlights
the talents of each artist in an organic mixture of sound. Though covered with a fluffy and obscure sound image, the album gives an impression of a crystal world with unlimited clarity. This world is filled with Sayafs innocent voice, magical melody, and deep lyrics. The
visionary music which portrays the fine line between dream and reality will lure listeners into another world. Here, you will find music of
freedom and beauty that is sure to bring tears to your eyes.

ACTION BIKER - Hesperian Puisto CD (Friendly Noise (Sweden): fyn69: 7393210306059) $12.99
|
COMING 8/12/2008
It really is time for Action Biker's first solo album! It has now been six years since she emerged as an artist doing fun and popular live shows and releasing CD-R's in the indie pop scene of Gothenburg, Sweden, which included people like Jens Lekman and The Honeydrips. Since then, Sarah Nyberg Pergament has been involved in other projects, such as Flow Flux Clan, Kissing Mirrors and The Dreamers, whose record "Day For Night" has received great acclaim from different places around the world. Over the years, Sarah has also performed lots of Action Biker shows (some, as an opening act for Le Tigre and The Embassy), contributed to recordings with Lars Blek (The Field), Differnet and The Honeydrips, and all this time, new recordings with Action Biker have popped up on compilations and singles. In brief, when "Hesperian Puisto" finally is released, it means the début of someone with a lot of experienceŠ The record is named after the Hesperian park in Helsinki, Finland, where Sarah lived for a while. She describes her music as baroque on synthesizers. It is pop music built on complex naivety - altogether very accessible music with distinct vocals and a crispy, sweet, analogue sound. Two great-looking videos are also included on the CD. References and Influences: Young Marble Giants, Broadcast, Dislocation Dance, Moondog, Virna Lindt, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Antena, Francoise Hardy, Saint Etienne, Brian Eno, Ghost Box, Stereolab, Fred Astaire, Maurice Ravel, ESG, Komeda, Cluster, Flying Lizards, Syd Barrett, The Passions, St Christopher, John Barry, Can, Human League, Colleen, Marine Girls, Eric Dolphy, Telex, George Delerue, The Wake, Kraftwerk, Lori & The Chameleons, Differnet.

|
COMING 8/12/2008
An experimental three-piece based in Stockholm, Heavïness might be one of the best things since My Bloody Valentine; indeed, this Swedish band's own brand of mayhem pop has been very well received in the neo-shoegaze camp. Electric violin, driving drums, flowing guitar, and bittersweet vocals forge a path through a forest of anxiety, longing and oppression. The songs strike you down with their brute force only to lift you up with the beauty of their melodies. Live they have been known to blow away unsuspecting audiences. This is their acclaimed debut album in a special Japanese issue featuring a bonus track and new artwork.

Shoegaze transcends its British influences and resurfaces in Asia with the compilation Half Dreaming, featuring sixteen bands and sixteen new, unreleased, or re-recorded tracks. v/a - SPLENDID ISOLATION CD (Friendly Noise (Sweden): fyn68: 7393210306042) $12.99
|
COMING 8/12/2008
A collection of exclusive tracks from the Radio Dept., Testbild!, Most Valuable Players, Differnet, Action Biker, Viktor Sjöberg, VED, Peter Jackson, Peter Nilsson, Redmalm, Enheten för musik och melodi, Malkovic, Erik de Vahl, Band in a Box, Flow Flux Clan, Robotboy, and Jian. Between January and December 2007 Friendly Noise released 18 mp3 singles offered as free downloads from www.friendlynoise.se. From the start it was intended to be a one-year-long project. The idea was simple: contributions chosen by us from our extended family of old friends and new discoveries, usually two songs, together with an introduction by the artists themselves and a picture to illustrate and enhance, once or twice a month. This was meant as a complement to our CD releases, and a chance to easily distribute great songs, in cases where the album context isn't necessary. These two ways of distribution aren't contradictory, they're related, as we stated on our website. Soon we realized the series had become a success, both when it came to the quality of the output and the amount of interest generated. So "Splendid Isolation" - our third compilation after "Friendly People Making Noise" (2003) and "Are You Scared To Get Happy?" (2006) - is our way of documenting the series through a selection of the songs and thus giving them a more official kind of release. The record is also a celebration of five years of Friendly Noise as a label. The order of the songs on the record isn't chronological, it's instead our attempt to make the record sound as good as possible as a whole.

Black To Comm - Fractal Hair Geometry CD (Dekorder (Germany): Dekorder 027-2: NO UPC) $15.99
|
COMING 8/18/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Black To Comm is the solo venture of Dekorder label boss Marc Richter. With two and a half albums released on his own label he has established himself as one of the most prolific drone artists out there with a forthcoming album on the American Digitalis label, a collaborative CD with Datashock on Ikuisuus, a 7" on the Irish Trensmat label and a collaboration with Xela in
the works "Fractal Hair Geometry" is Richter's most refined and original work to date, picking up where the
electrifying drone works of his monumental Double-LP left off. Like the last records this album is centered around recordings of a variety of vintage organs. While "Wir können leider..." often featured pure harmonium sounds and spacious
recordings of chuch organ and mellotron, the new album opts for a more electronic, effects-laden
sound, sending an old Farfisa Compact Deluxe and Casio SK-5 through an armada of analogue & digital effects pedals. The results are massive
one-chord drones layered into dense & ecstatic, flickering & pulsating clusters of psychedelic electronic sound. Additional wordless vocal
effects, hyperventilating & sizzling drum machines and hypnotic violin and guitar noises make for a hyperactive sound that never stands still even though most of the music is pure
drones (sometimes consisting of more than 50 recording layers). Decidedly simple but gorgeous melodies shine through the mist from time to
time, making a Black To Comm record always much more accessible than your average drone album.
There's even a heavy 4/4 bass drum smuggled into a track dedicated to the late Leigh Bowery, one of the most enigmatic creative figures of the
mid-80's UK club scene (and singer of Minty).
Guests include Jonna Karanka (aka Kuupuu) on piano, Guido Möbius on trumpet and current Black To Comm (live) band members Renate Nikolaus on
violin and Ulf Schütte (of Datashock, Aosuke, etc.) adding electronic sounds.
Along the lines of the music, seminal German artist Oliver Ross has created a massive multi-layered neon-coloured collage artwork which is printed on special ultra-heavy cardboard stock.

|
COMING 8/18/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Available 8/18/2008. Limited pressing of 500. Once they're gone, it's download only my friends. Our Sacramento, CA indie-pop all stars return with a gem of a pop/rock album full of hooky choruses, call and response guitars and a super tight power-pop rhythm section. A pow-pow-powerful good good feeling! Just as you'd expect from this seasoned music family.
Bask in the summer sun with the fourth album from the golden state’s California Oranges and a healthy dose of the sunshine power pop they’re known for. Underlying the power is a healthy dose of pop: Delicately concocted, contemplative songs exploring life’s ups and downs.
The quintet has hit their stride on Imperial Hearts. The record features the same line up as their 2005 release Souvenirs: John Conley (Holiday Flyer), Verna Brock (Rocketship, Beanpole, Holiday Flyer, Sinking Ships), Ross Levine (Sinking Ships), Katie Haley (Holiday Flyer, Sinking Ships), and Matt Levine (Sinking Ships).
The album was jointly produced by the California Oranges and Dana Gumbiner (Night Night, Deathray). Imperial Hearts was mixed by long time friend of the band, producer/engineer, Eric Stenman (Saves the Day, The Comas, The Cab).
The California Oranges construct songs filled with, ”soaring boy/girl harmonies, rapid-fire licks of squeaky clean and buzz saw dirty guitar work, consistently up-tempo beats, and melodies that would make tone deaf kitten haters want to sing along” --Popmatters.
“Power pop has rarely sounded as sweet.” –-Treblezine.

Daniel Padden - Pause for the Jet LP (Dekorder (Germany): Dekorder 026: NO UPC) $12.99
|
COMING 8/18/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Since 1995 Daniel Padden has been a member of Volcano The Bear, with
several highly regarded album releases on Nurse With Wound's United Diaries label, Textile and Beta-Lactam Ring Records. After his move to Glasgow he started The One Ensemble Of Daniel Padden as an outlet for his solo recordings with releases on Catsup Plate, Secret Eye and Textile. When The One Ensemble slowly metamorphosed into a band of its own, Padden started to record his solo output under his birth name, with last year's "The Isaac Storm" on the Ultra Exzema label
being the first seminal result.
Over the years Padden has developed a strong fascination for obscure musics from all over the world (re his recent "Epiphanies" article for The Wire magazine): mouth organ love-songs from Thailand, The Ramayana Monkey Chant from Bali, Khene pieces from Laos; so-called world music from Burundi to Bulgaria.
Combining these interests with his love for British Folk and Art Rock
(This Heat, Robert Wyatt), Kraut Rock (Faust), Free Jazz, the surreal
collage techniques of Nurse With Wound and the odd humour of The Residents, he has developed a totally unique and highly personal musical vision without ever sounding overambitious or directionless. Gorgeous song-writing is seamlessly transformed into pure fuzz or string drones, suddenly interrupted by some improvised reeds or collapsing percussion, all within the blink of an eye, and never losing its natural flow, "Pause for the Jet" is already an auspicious aspirant for our "Record of the Year".

Machinefabriek - Dauw CD (Dekorder (Germany): Dekorder 029: NO UPC) $14.99
|
COMING 8/18/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Machinefabriek is the alias for Rutger Zuydervelt currently residing in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Since 2004 Zuydervelt has unleashed an
uncountable number of self-released 3"CD's (his format of choice) in lovingly designed sleeves (all made by himself). In the past years some of
these releases have been compiled into amazing albums such as "Slaapzucht" on the Root Strata label, "Weleer" on Lampse, the "Cello Recycling" 10"/CD on Type Records and "Bijeen" on Kning
Disk. Recent collaborations with Stephen Vietiello (on the 12K label), Freiband, Steinbrüchel and other likeminded artists have expanded the horizon veritably. Machinefabriek's
music has been remixed by the likes of Xela, Lesser, Svarte Greiner, Alva Noto, Pita, Kim Cascone, Ben Frost, Black To Comm and others.
Only few Machinefabriek material has been recorded specifically for an album release but these have always been stand-outs in the vast catalogue. Both "Marijn" on Lampse and "Ranonkel"
on Burning World Records were classic recordings, squeezing a large amount of what people love about Zuydervelt's music into one album, at the same time giving him the space to expand on new
ideas. Likewise "Dauw" is one of Zuydervelt's most subtle & quiet yet refined works. Mainly built around small but gorgeous melodies of piano
and guitar playing and the crackling sound of dusty vinyl samples, these songs slowly build into intensive hymn-like angel choirs of sheer
heavenly beauty.
Zuydervelt's output often has drawn comparisons to the likes of Fennesz, Godspeed, Arvo Pärt, Basinski, Tim Hecker, Phillip Jeck, Mogwai and
Earth, which is certainly not all wrong and some of these have been influences in the early stages of his career but he has since developed a strong and individual language all of his own.
Mastered by Guiseppe Ielasi with elegant artwork by Zuydervelt himself; metallic print on grey cardboard stock.

SOULS ON BOARD - Blood Face CD (Low Transit Industries (Australia): LTID049: 9332727008573) $12.99
|
COMING 8/18/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Bastards! Like some unholy breeding ground, SOULS ON BOARD are loyal to an ever-evolving matrimony - beauty and dirt, ugliness and invention, dumb and smart, mind-blowing power and grace.
BLOOD FACE is the new EP, the Melbourne group's second release after their "hurtling and assured" self-titled EP debut of 2005. Released by wunderkinds Low Transit Industries, the EP saw the band draw comparisons to The Pixies & Sonic Youth, tour the country with Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males and End of Fashion, play alongside Maximo Park (UK), Faker & Deloris as well as land spots on the Big Day Out and St. Kilda Festivals!
BLOOD FACE picks up the hazardous extremes of that first rugged EP and beats them into a new shape. A shape with pointed edges, electricity in the veins and a wall of psychedelic sound bubbling under a whip-smart guitar bleed section. While the tunes bulge with shining phrases & stirring twists, lyrically BLOOD FACE grapples with dark visions and uncomfortable realities - these ills given some respite by the pop playfulness of the 6 tracker.
Recorded by Finn Keane (theredsunband, SubAudible Hum) in the heart of Melbourne city, and mixed by Aaron Cupples (Dan Kelly & the Alpha Males, The Drones) between cows and night monsters in the hills of Gippsland, BLOOD FACE captures the peaks and explorations of the bands live set over the last 2 years. A visceral & powerful project on stage, SOULS ON BOARD have captured an experience equal to the sparks of its creation. Punchy, raw, exploding with life and colour . . . introducing BLOOD FACE.
R E V I E W S :
“Blood Face is an ambitious release delivered with confidence and gusto and will no doubt leave punters cheering for more” Rave
”Helmed by a vivid, coolly electric guitar tone – the voltage feels integral, for reasons not yet tangible – the second EP from Melbourne’s Souls On Board confirms that their melange of atmospheric soundscapes, plangent stadium rock and jazzy, experimental pop lacks for neither vision nor a sense of reality… they feel on the verge of discovering something essential within their music. They’re already closer than too many of their contemporaries will ever get” Mess+Noise
“In conclusion, Souls On Board as a group perpetuate many questions. With their eclectic mix of pop and heavy guitar riffs, Blood Face cements their own creative space in music as their songs take your hand and lead you in one direction before suddenly halting and taking you on an alternate route, repeat and serve hot” The Dwarf
”I don’t think I’ve heard such a ragtag, mixed-back offering of songs sound as cohesive as this in a while. Mainly because, as far as I can tell, SOB’s versatility doesn’t compromise their musicianship, and they know how to write a solid number with a pulse and a point” Beat / Xpress

Bitcrush - Shimmer and Fade CD (n5MD: MD160: 702224116023) $11.70
|
COMING 8/19/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Originally released in 2005, 'Shimmer and Fade' was a limited time download EP from n5MD's sub-label En:peg Digital. Within its forty-eight minutes, bass and guitar arose from the background to a place of prominence and carried the EP's melodic content. This change in form represented an important period in the natural evolution of the Bitcrush sound, a time that found Mike Cadoo transitioning from his post-industrial and IDM beginnings found on Enarc to the more ambient/post-shoegaze direction of 'In Distance.' After years of requests to bring Shimmer and Fade back, n5MD has chosen to re-release it as a re-mastered CD which contains four extra tracks not found on the original EP. Limited to 1000, this release will serve as a time capsule of what was yet to come.
track list:
shimmer
aventious
no bridge no water
the missing
every sunday
waiting for something
have you lost your way?
and we fade
white flag song
when swallowing becomes difficult
the destruction of self

Lights Out Asia - Eyes Like Brontide CD (n5MD: MD161: 702224116122) $11.70
|
COMING 8/19/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Once a band has developed a sound that is undeniably theirs it can be difficult to push beyond those confines and expand the sound into new territory. Lights Out Asia set out to do just that and have succeeded in writing a record that was as much a sign of the times as it was an expansion of their aural bubble that has been their watermark. They have been called ethereal, post-shoegaze and sleep-rock, but on their third full length "Eyes Like Brontide" the band slides into a darker more ominous and less lucid dream than on previous efforts. The release is a stylistic shift from the sweet lullabies of their debut "Garmonia" (Sun Sea Sky) and the electronic drum driven post-shoegaze of 2007's "Tanks and Recognizers" (n5MD). The song dynamics on the album deserve special attention. For the first time in Lights Out Asia's history they have gone for broke with some of the most epic drum machine driven post-rock this side of the Pacific along with solemn disconnected passages of dream nourished sonics. The occasional floating vocal and dusty winding guitar they are known for are still present, but "Eyes Like Brontide" brings a whole new dimension to the Lights Out Asia ethos. Most importantly, the band has expanded upon its sound without throwing away the original blueprint or alienating it's fanbase. "Eyes Like Brontide" is recommended for fans of Hammock, Bitcrush, Robin Guthrie and Manual.

Near The Parenthesis - L'Eixample CD (n5MD: MD159: 702224115927) $11.70
|
COMING 8/19/2008
EXCLUSIVE. Near the Parenthesis follows up 2007's "Of Soft Construction" with "L'Eixample," Tim Arndt's most focused work to date. L'Eixample draws on inspiration gained during travels through Barcelona, Spain. Of particular interest was the innovative and sometimes peculiar modernist architecture of the L'Eixample district. In Catalunyan, L'Eixample literally means an extension, a strong symbolic parallel to the music found on Arndt's latest work which itself reflects an extension of the Near the Parenthesis' sound. While this collection begins where "Of Soft Construction" left off, it quickly migrates to an even calmer and more atmospheric experience. Through L'Eixample, Arndt has moved closer to an an emotional apex and provides even greater melodic rewards.
